Bridge inspection unit gets official blessing

The department of Public Works & Highways of the Republic of the Philippines, whose office of regional direction si based in Davao City, has recently taken delivery from Italian access specialist Barin of a new truck-mounted underbridge inspection unit type ABC 110/L. The machine has been manufactured in Italy and assembled on a Mercedes Benz 1524L 4x2 truck chassis, which was manufactured in Germany.

The machine was bought under the technical cooperation project run by the Japan International Cooperation Agency for the improvement of quality management for highway and bridge construction and maintenance in the Repubblic of the Philippines.
The official blessing and handover of the bridge inspection vehicle took place in March of the year, in the presence of various JICA representatives, among them the regional director Jerome M. Dela Rosa.

The decision of the Department of Public Works & Highways of the Republic of the Philippines to by a platform - type machine was suggested by the need to ensure the complete safety of workers inspecting bridges.
Like all of Barin's production range, the ABC 110/L machine needs only a single lane in which to operate, whether it is in its transport position or its work position. This means that traffic can continue to flow on the bridge, even when it is only a two-lane structure.

The main technical features of the machine are that it can clear a bridge parapet of 2.25m height, and a footway of up to 2m. The horizontal outreach under the bridge is up to 11m, andthe maximum vertical depth it can reach on the underbridge is 6m.
The plattform has a capacity of 500 kg and it is 1.05m wide. It takes just six minutes for the machine to extend itself into the working position, and the platform can rotate by 180° under the bridge; 90° in each direction.
